Temboga Road and other projects started and finished under his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, should not be claimed by Monday Okpebholo, the state governor, according to a warning from the Edo State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement, Chris Nehikhare, the State Caretaker Committee’s publicity secretary, warned the party.

Okpebholo’s claims to have flagged off the construction of the 7.5km Temboga Road and other projects were false and deceptive, according to Nehikhare, because the road had already been built during the Obaseki-led administration.

He called on the governor to focus on fulfilling his campaign pledges by starting projects that align with his administration’s vision for the state, rather than making what he called bold attempts to rewrite the accomplishments of Obaseki’s administration.

“It is regrettable that the governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his administration are off to a terrible start by misleading the people of Edo State with accusations that they are starting projects that the previous administration of Godwin Obaseki had already finished.

One such project is the 7.5-kilometer Temboga Road, which was started and built by the government led by Godwin Obaseki. We strongly ask the governor-elect and his government to immediately refrain from such ignoble actions, since they are completely absurd and unacceptable.

“Deception and dishonesty are not acceptable to Edo people. We urge Senator Okpebholo to focus on fulfilling his campaign pledges to the Edo people by starting and carrying out his own projects that complement his administration’s vision for Edo State, if they have any plans or developmental agenda for the state, at the expense of engaging in these bold antics to rewrite the performance records of Governor Obaseki’s administration,” he said.
