During an unplanned inspection of the Ramat Park flyover project, which is currently around 90% finished, residents of Ikpoba Hill in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area flocked out in force to see Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
In celebration of what many referred to as a historic infrastructure project intended to alleviate traffic congestion along the popular axis, market women, traders, drivers, neighbors, and business owners clapped and sung, creating a carnival-like atmosphere.
Grinning broadly, Governor Okpebholo thanked the crowd for their support and welcomed the applause, adding that the flyover is a component of his administration’s efforts to fulfill campaign pledges and upgrade Edo State’s road system.
After the tour, Okpebholo told reporters that he was pleased with the contractor’s work’s caliber and speed.
“The job is going smoothly, and we are happy with the pace and quality thus far. Approximately 10% of the project remains. It should be finished in the next month or two,” he stated.
“We are giving the Edo people our best effort. The contractor is fulfilling our requirements for both quality and delivery. We’ll keep making sure that all completed projects adhere to the necessary standards.
While acknowledging the short-term traffic issues brought on by the ongoing work, he thanked the locals for their support and patience.
“The residents of Edo have remained supportive despite the construction-related traffic jams. They are pleased as they can observe the results of our efforts. Many people in the state have never seen a project like this before,” he continued.
Additionally, Governor Okpebholo thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of Edo State’s development initiatives.
“We appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s assistance. That assistance enables us to deploy the resources we are using for this and other projects. “Edo State is making great progress,” he stated.
Speaking during the visit, a few locals commended the governor for starting what they called “people-focused projects.”
According to Josephine Isaac, a trader, the flyover is a huge help to local commuters and business owners.
“This is unlike anything we have ever seen. The people are the top focus, as this administration has demonstrated. We value the governor’s hard work,” she remarked.
In a similar vein, Mr. Frank Ojekata, a commercial driver on the Ikpoba Hill route, claimed that the project will permanently alleviate the area’s chronic traffic congestion.
“The traffic issue we have had for years will be lessened with this flyover. “This project is a legacy,” he stated.
When the Ramat Park flyover is finished, it should greatly enhance traffic flow and stimulate the local economy in Benin City’s Ikpoba Hill and surrounding neighborhoods.
APC State Deputy Chairman Sylvester Aigboboh, APC Edo Central Senatorial Leader Gen. Cecil Esekhagbe (rtd), Special Advisor on Projects Implementation and Monitoring Engineer Phoebe Williams-Bello, and other senior government officials accompanied the governor on the inspection.
