Following the destruction of a mosque in the state’s Aramoko LGA, the Ekiti government has attempted to defuse tensions by holding peace negotiations with Muslim leaders under the auspices of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA).
The religious leaders were reassured by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye during their meeting that the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji is still dedicated to religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.
As a constituency project of Senate Leader and Ekiti Central Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the mosque in issue was purportedly razed to make room for an ultra-modern market.

The Alara-in-Council, under the leadership of Oba Olu Adeyemi, the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, has already set aside another piece of land for the mosque’s reconstruction, Afuye said during the meeting.

The administration is committed to justice, she promised the Muslim community, and she urged them to maintain their composure.
The fact that the Alara of Aramoko Ekiti is a Muslim leader even makes me glad. “He must not be in an environment where you will be deceived,” Afuye stated.

“We’ll call a meeting of stakeholders shortly to guarantee a peaceful conclusion.”
“We prefer a speedy resolution to this issue. “We think Governor Oyebanji won’t let it fester,” he stated.

Aramoko Ekiti’s chief imam, Alhaji Abdul-Raheem Bamigbola, expressed worry that two mosques had been destroyed for construction projects in the neighborhood in less than six months, with little attempt made to reconstruct them.

While the Muslim community is in favor of growth, he said, their house of worship needs to be restored in a proper location.

“We are grateful for Senator Bamidele’s progress, but he needs to keep his word and construct another mosque for us,” the Imam stated.
