Eko Cares: LASG food packs to “500,000” households, the issues arising…

Lagos State Government commenced the distribution of food packs to 500,000 households on 24th April, 2023. This, the LASG revealed is part of its social intervention of the same APC regime that brought hardship and suffering to its citizens.

Labour Party Lagos state noted that Tokenism, as the usual practice of the APC led govt is a way of deceiving Lagosians to believe in duplicitous display of affection as against the plights of the citizens thereby complicating the challenges of the people.
We keep wondering why APC government is fond of giving people fish rather than teaching the people how to fish? How many Lagosians will benefit from these food packs? A cursory indicator of the population of Lagos state in entirety shows that the smallest local government area in the state has well over one million poor and vulnerable households. The question is; are the palliatives/packs only meant for APC members? Shouldn’t the APC government provide infrastructure that will enable families survive basic needs which includes food and shelter or will it be palliatives forever? Labour Party wants to know how these food packs will be distributed and those that will benefit.
Olubunmi added that the party wishes to advise the APC-led LASG not to turn the citizens to permanent beggars but embark on infrastructural development that will add value to the lives of the people.
Labour Party would rather desire that the LASG make remarkable progress in generating its own power/electricity with the vast resources at its disposal.
The food pack distribution is not only susceptible to corrupt tendencies but is a limited time measure for temporary sustenance
Lagos Labour Party disagrees that food pack distribution is the only social intervention programme that is available for the citizens.

Lagosians should not be turned to beggars for basic necessities such as food that people should ordinarily provide for themselves if the government is a progressive one with sustainable measures to alleviate poverty.
