Joe Igbokwe, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has defended Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, in his legal battle against Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over alleged fraudulent monetary practices directed against President Bola Tinubu.
Igbokwe pointed out that El-Rufai filed a lawsuit against Emefiele in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, alleging that he had put in place financial measures intended to prevent Tinubu from winning.
Some saw Emefiele’s contentious monetary policies—especially the redesign of the naira—as a calculated attempt to undermine Tinubu’s candidacy and were heavily condemned for creating economic hardship.

After voicing his disenchantment with the APC and asserting that it has deviated from its core values, El-Rufai has recently come under fire inside the party.

He also bemoaned the lack of a meeting by important APC institutions in the previous two years.
