Honorable Bashir El-Rufai, the chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations (also known as the House Committee on Banking and Currency), has stated his hope that Peter Obi will defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 if he chooses a well-liked Northerner to be his running mate.
In a post on his X handle on Thursday, the younger El-Rufai, who was elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed his opinions while also acknowledging that Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, is a formidable opponent in the general elections of 2027.
The former vice president faces a significant challenge from Obi’s sheer numbers and cult-like following, according to Nasir El-Rufai, the son of the former governor of Kaduna State.
According to Bashir, Atiku’s best chance to win the presidency would have been in the 2019 presidential election.

Atiku is a formidable force, he declared. Additionally, he believes that everything is now working out for him. This might be one of those “moments meets the man” situations, even though 2019 is regarded as his greatest chance. But there is a problem because of Obi’s overwhelming numbers and cult-like fan base. One significant component of his leverage is his attractiveness to young people, particularly this younger generation.
“On election day, Obi, as the flag bearer of a formidable Northern candidate, would defeat Pablo before Aunty Remi, the nation’s beloved mother, finishes his breakfast at around noon.”
This opinion is consistent with that of Prof. Jerry Gana, the PDP’s first national secretary, who claimed that the party was strong in the north and that Obi would defeat any candidate from the north if he ran on the PDP platform in the northern states.
“I’m a researcher, and I research opinions,” Gana stated during her Wednesday guest appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time. Peter Obi of the PDP will defeat any candidate in the northern states because our people are highly fair-minded.
