Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, has predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will probably run in 2027.
According to reports, El-Rufai stated that political power in Nigeria is still up for debate during his speech at the 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue, which had as its theme “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What Is Working and What Is Not.”
El-Rufai pointed out that the APC will not hold power indefinitely, just as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ruled Nigeria for 16 years before losing it.
The former Federal Capital Territory Minister claims that Nigeria’s democratic experience is unique on the African continent since, in contrast to several other nations with dominant-party systems, no single party holds permanent power.
“Nigeria does not have a permanent ruling party, and that is an achievement,” he declared.
For sixteen years, the PDP was in power. The APC will not hold power indefinitely. The APC is probably going to disappear around 2027.
As a result, power is still up for debate. This sets Nigeria apart from other main party systems on the continent.
El-Rufai emphasized that political rivalry has not yet resulted in accountability or good government, pointing out that Nigerian political parties are still weak and “personality-driven and transactional.”
“Competition has not yet matured into accountability and good governance,” he stated.
Speaking from Brussels, Belgium, where he claimed to be recuperating from illness, the former governor expressed regret for missing the Abuja ceremony.
