Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, has refuted claims that the South will choose the nation’s president in 2027.
According to an online magazine, El-Rufai stated in a post via 𝕏 by ADC News (@AdcNews_), “I refused to contest in 2027 because it is the turn of the South.” In 2031, you will witness me in action.
El-Rufai, however, called the newspaper “fake news” in a statement on Monday, adding that he did not specify which part of the nation should produce the president in 2027.
The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister claims that he never made the alleged statement in an interview or on social media.
“My attention has been drawn to a trending fake news item alleging that I specified which region of the country should produce the president in 2027,” the message says.
Despite going viral, this claim is false. In none of my speeches, interviews, or social media posts did I mention this. I own my opinions and express my thoughts on my own verifiable social media sites.
“I would like to repeat that no opinions may be ascribed to me unless they are clearly stated on my social media accounts or in interviews with reputable media outlets. Additionally, it is incorrect and improper to claim credit for opinion pieces written by other authors that I may share on my accounts in an effort to contribute to the national dialogue. These warnings are essential as we deal with both careless politicking and the intentional misuse of social media to propagate false information.
