Due to a number of labor-related issues, the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) stopped the strike action on Thursday.
The suspension came after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was agreed during a crucial intervention meeting convened by Minister of Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu on Thursday, September 25, 2025, to resolve continuing labor conflicts at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Participants in the Abuja meeting included the Federal Ministry of Labor, the Nigerian Independent System Operators (NISO), TCN management, and representatives from the internal unions, the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) and the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).
After a deadline set by the unions for TCN management over a number of labor-related issues expired, NUEE earlier on Thursday ordered its members at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to immediately cease services.
The Minister of Power, represented by the Ministry’s Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics and Director of Distribution Services, stepped in to stop the unions’ picketing and start a conversation.
Important agreements were made following lengthy talks: The unions decided to examine a committee’s report by October 6-7, 2025, with an eye toward evaluating its implementation beginning in October 2025.
Together, TCN and NISO will evaluate the committee’s proposals’ financial ramifications and create a thorough implementation strategy.
Both the unions and the minister will be shown this plan.
“Any outstanding issues will be addressed at a follow-up meeting between the unions and management.
The evaluation of TCN and NISO’s prices would be expedited by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in order to facilitate the implementation of the report. Participation in the recent industrial action will not result in any employee being victimized.
As per the communiqué our correspondent saw, “the in-house unions agreed to suspend their industrial actions as a result of these commitments, allowing the resolutions to be put into effect and promising a more cooperative path forward in addressing labor issues within Nigeria’s power sector.”
