Popular Nigerian singer Niniola has stated that she will never be able to move past the pain of witnessing the assassination of her father, Simeon Apata, a retired Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army.
In Lagos, on January 8, 1995, Gen. Apata (rtd.) was slain by gunmen while his family was there.
In a recent interview with Jay On Air, Niniola recapped the tragic event and claimed that, being her late father’s favorite child, she finds it difficult to move on.
When my father was killed, I was inside the house. You can imagine [the trauma] because I was his favorite child. I’m still not over it as of right now. “I’ll never be able to move on,” she claimed.
When it occurred, I was quite young. Although I don’t recall my precise age at the time, it wasn’t a pleasant recollection.
In 2023, Teni, Niniola’s sister and a singer, said that she was traumatized by seeing her father’s murder when she was just two years old.
