The federal government has acknowledged the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, saying they have forced it to listen to Nigerians’ yearnings, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has said.
Speaking at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group National Economic Dialogue on Wednesday, Bagudu attributed the country’s current struggles to past administrations but praised President Bola Tinubu for refusing to play the blame game.
Despite past mistakes, the government is committed to improving the country’s fortunes, Bagudu assured. “We have learnt that even the current protests have made us listen more… We need to do more, we need to do better, and we need to do it in a hurry.”

Bagudu noted that Nigeria’s income per capita remains below expectations, despite efforts by previous administrations. He cited the telecommunications sector’s transformation and the doubling of the population from 119 million in 1999 to 230 million today.
However, oil production has not kept pace, with current levels still under 1.5 million barrels, reflecting years of underinvestment. “We are not lamenting… We are willing to take the bull by the horns,” Bagudu said, highlighting President Tinubu’s experience in running a state with the largest economy in the country.
The minister’s remarks indicate a willingness to address Nigerians’ concerns and work towards a better future, despite past shortcomings.
