Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has criticized manager Ruben Amorim’s comments after the Red Devils’ recent defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
Rooney insisted that Amorim’s words were damning on Man United players, adding that something is broken.
Recall that Amorim’s men were eliminated from the Carabao Cup at the hands of the League Two side at Blundell Park.
The encounter ended 12-11 on penalty shoot-out following a 2-2 draw.
Following the game, Amorim appeared dejected as he seemed to insinuate that a huge change is needed at Old Trafford.
However, Rooney was not too please with the Portuguese’s comments as he offered his thoughts on BBC’s The Wayne Rooney Show, saying: “There were a lot of positives against Arsenal and then Fulham was a disappointment.
“Then to go to Grimsby and lose with the best players involved in the game and the way they lost, it was disheartening.
“His [Amorim’s] words were damning on the players. If your manager comes out with those words, there is something broken.
“What we forget is he is only 40. He is a young manager. Manchester United is so different to where he’s been before.
“There is a pressure with United, which he will never have felt before.”
