Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe has predicted Liverpool striker, Hugo Ekitike to ‘be a threat’ in the Premier League this season.

Howe stated this during his pre-match press conference ahead of Newcastle’s home Premier League fixture with Liverpool at St James’ Park on Monday.

Newcastle had targeted Ekitike as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak this summer before the 23-year-old attacker joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer.

Ekitike scored on his debut as Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2 last Friday and is now set to lead the Premier League champions against Howe’s side.

“I think there is no doubting that I really like Hugo and have done for a number of years,” Howe said.

“He is someone that we have tracked for a long time. He is intelligent.

“I think he is got a load of qualities that will serve him really well in the Premier League.

“Our job will be to keep him quiet and try to control him, but certainly he is going to be a threat this year.”
