The governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has been encouraged by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) to make amends with Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume.
During a Tuesday interview on Arise Television’s “Morning Show,” Aondoakaa made the appeal.
He said that both parties have been instructed by President Bola Tinubu to put their swords down and pursue reconciliation.
“The President has instructed the party to engage in a conciliation process concerning the disagreements between Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume,” the former AGF stated.
If the Governor approaches Akume in compliance with the President’s order, I don’t see anything wrong with that or consider it a disrespect to his office.
His statement comes as the conflict between Alia and Akume intensified after last Wednesday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress, which took place throughout the state.
Recall that the conflict has caused party members to divide into two groups since it started soon after Alia’s inauguration in 2023.
In the meantime, Mrs. Regina Akume, the spouse of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and the member for the Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, has officially renewed her union with George Akume.
She reportedly stated that she is still his wife in spite of public remarks against his family.
Mrs. Akume made the announcement in a video taken during a New Year’s Mass. She emphasized that her family is still united while speaking to the congregation in an emotional yet forceful manner.
“I want to express my love for Mr. George (Akume) to the world.” She said, “He’s my husband.”
She went on to say, “That is his son sitting there, and that is also his daughter,” pointing to family members sat in the assembly and naming them as she went.
Rejecting public rumors, the federal legislator said categorically that she is still not married.
Both my spouse and my man are that. He is the only spouse I have. She said, “I don’t care what the world says,” to the cheers of the congregation.
During the event, Mrs. Akume also shared a recent medical difficulty, characterizing it as a trying time that tried her strength and faith.
She claims to have been entirely healed by supernatural intervention.
She expressed her gratitude to God for curing her and restoring her health.
She also clarified her Christian beliefs by stating that God is all-powerful and unmatched.
The Almighty Father is who he is. She said, “There is no one like Him, and no power is greater than His.”
“No sacrifice can be greater than the sacrifice made by our Lord Jesus on the cross,” she continued, highlighting Christian views on redemption.
She made her remarks as public interest in the Akume family has grown in the wake of allegations that the SGF recently took a second wife, a decision that has sparked intense debate in social and political circles.
