According to Dr. Aminu Waziri, the former Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), there isn’t a strong political rival in Katsina State that might unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Waziri, who formally re-joined the APC on Monday, told reporters that opposing parties’ visibility and influence have decreased as a result of the ruling party’s ward and community-level unification and ongoing government initiatives.

“The current situation in Katsina State demonstrates that there is no strong opposition. The APC is still in firm control at all levels, from the local to the state level, and the populace still supports its programs and leadership,” he stated.

He claimed that a large number of opposition members from his former party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Accord Party, had either joined the APC or are closely associated with it, resulting in the disarray and fragmentation of their previous platforms.

The former head of SEMA claims that recent political events and defections have further undermined opposition formations in the state’s 34 local government districts.

He credited the trend to the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s increased attention on governance, increased social interventions, and sectoral investments in local infrastructure, agriculture, education, and security.

Dahiru Ibrahim, a state ADC member, responded to the assertion by stating that opposition groups are still in operation and are reorganizing in preparation for the 2027 generation election.

“I can guarantee you that our party, ADC, has very strong and formidable structures across the 361 wards of Katsina State, and we are ready to retrieve power from the APC at both state and national levels,” he declared.

Ibrahim remarked that it is premature to draw the conclusion that there is no serious opposition, characterizing Waziri’s claim as baseless and unfounded and pointing out that political momentum can change prior to election cycles.
