A former senator from Kogi West, Tunde Ogbeha, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ogbeha said in a letter to the PDP Ward A chairman in Lokoja LGA that the party had lost its way and had devolved into a ghost of its former self.
“With immediate effect, I hereby formally notify you of my decision to resign from the party,” he wrote.
Ogbeha claimed that despite the fact that many people left the PDP during the 2015 general election, he stayed with it.
He remarked, “As you may remember, I have consistently stood firmly and steadfastly by the principles of the PDP over the years.”
“I vowed to be the last man standing even after almost all party members left after our defeat in the 2015 presidential election.”
After the party lost power, the former senator claimed he sought to rebuild and reposition it.
Without coming across as immodest, he stated, “I have worked steadfastly to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party — efforts which helped restore the PDP to national relevance and made it once again a party of choice for many Nigerians.”

The party has been ridiculed by the public as a result of recent events that have left it a shadow of its former self due to growing divisions, an ongoing leadership crisis, and irreconcilable conflicts.
“I have decided to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of the group’s endeavor to save our country and protect our hard-won democracy after extensive discussions with my family, friends, and political associates.”
From 1999 to 2007, the 80-year-old Ogbeha served in the Senate.
He was a retired brigadier general who oversaw Akwa Ibom and the former Bendel state under General Ibrahim Babangida’s military administration.
