By Onome Naomi
The event of the 3rd year anniversary, held on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, commenced with a chieftain title in addition to the fold of cabinet chiefs of the Ijegun Ijeododo palace of Eze Chika Nwokedi.
Testimonials given by guests sum up the fact that Eze Chika Nwokedi Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo accepted the mantle of kingship hesitantly but steadily to stand as the mouthpiece and peacemaker for Igbos in his jurisdiction of reign. Fortunately, other tribes and religions in Ijegun, Ijeododo, and its environs also benefit from Eze Chika’s leadership of selfless service.
During Eze Chika’s speech on the occasion of a 3rd anniversary, he noted that his aim to maintain peace from ethnic violence has paid off so far, as seen in the management of the crisis during the last general elections in 2023 in Ijegun, and was appreciated by the Lagos State government. More also, in the last three years of reign, over 1000 widows, widowers, and less privileged persons have benefitted from the palliatives given at various intervals all through the years; medical bills have been paid for those unable to afford treatments or medications. There was an instance of a mother of triplets who couldn’t afford to pay hospital bills of N150,000 after delivery but was paid off by Eze Chika. He also provided the couple with food items and other necessities for the babies with the help of donations from his allies during his 1st year of service to his community and many other charity deeds he’s carried out.
In addition, Eze Chika Nwokedi in the last three years has been seen touching the lives of people through charity; there are also instances where okada men at the Ijegun area benefitted from free fuel that could aid operation for a week; market women of petty trades in Ijegun Ijeododo, especially those in his immediate environment, benefitted from capital to run their businesses on a larger scale from Eze Chika Nwokedi. He’s also paid school fees for the less privileged children severally and sent dropouts back to school, noting that children are the future generation and must be cared for. All this and more he’s achieved in the last 3 years of reign, he says, elicits fulfillment of purpose, for it gives him an inner joy and peace when he puts a smile on the faces of the helpless.
