The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos will be temporarily closed for restoration.
Obiageli Orah, director of public affairs and consumer protection, stated on Sunday that the repair work is part of ongoing efforts to keep the runway in good condition.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that there would be a temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos from the 03:00Hrs of 3rd of March 2025 23:59Hrs of 4th March 2025,” according to a statement.

“The closure is due to ongoing rehabilitation work (asphalt phase) at the A2 Taxiway-link of the runway.”
Orah stated that aircraft operations would not be delayed because all planes will be diverted to the alternate runway 18L/36R throughout the period.
The director emphasized the authority’s dedication to its key values of safety, security, and passenger satisfaction.
On January 15, Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN’s managing director, stated that N580 billion is required to repair airport runways throughout the country.
Speaking about the state of airport facilities, Kuku stated that many runways had outlived their usefulness, demanding immediate reconstruction.
