Eight people from one family were killed in a terrible accident on the Kaduna-Zaria highway Monday night, and two more are in the hospital battling for their lives.
They learned that the unfortunate incident happened when a speeding car lost control and struck pedestrians waiting on the side of the road.
It is understood that the tragic event occurred during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations at approximately 6 p.m. in the Barakallahu neighborhood along the Kaduna-Zaria route.
Women and children who had congregated by the side of the road after spending the holiday at their grandmother’s house were part of the impacted population.
A little boy from the Rigachikun neighborhood is said to have been driving the ash-colored Mercedes GLK Jeep that was involved in the crash. He reportedly ran away from the site right away.
It is thought that the boy’s father is a prominent member of the community’s political elite.
In an interview with Daily Trust, a distraught husband and father from Sabon Gari, Tudun Wada, Malam Jamilu Usman Mai Yadi, said, “We lost eight members of our family that evening.”
“My wife Khadija Umar, my two children Muhammad, 9, and Sadiq, 16, as well as their aunt, their younger and older sisters, and I all passed away. I have 10 family members in all; two are still in the hospital and eight have died.

When the car abruptly pulled off the road and crashed into the victims, he said, they were waiting by the side of the road, expecting to get a ride home.
It is likely that the motorist was speeding since my wife’s leg was irreparably shattered. Road Safety officers didn’t return Sadiq’s remains to us till later,” Mai Yadi said angrily.
The deceased included Zainab Muhammad, who was eight months along in her twin pregnancy.
Hayin Rigasa priest Sulaiman Abdulkadir Mai Shinkafa, her husband, described the accident’s aftermath in graphic detail.
She was imminently due to give birth. The baby stuff was all set up. In fact, we gave the unborn twins the names Hassan and Hussaini. Our son Khalid, age six, was also struck.
She was crushed. His bones were broken, my kid. Before burying them, we had to collect their remains using boards. The distraught father told reporters, “No family should ever witness it.”
Like other bereaved family members, Mai Shinkafa expresses profound disappointment over what they perceive to be neglect on the part of the society and government.
We have received no condolences from the Kaduna State administration or the boy’s family, whose father was a well-known politician in the neighborhood. Not a single word,” he bemoaned.
The driver’s father did not even appear. As if our lives are unimportant.
FRSC Verifies Scenario
The terrible accident was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), which attributed it to overspeeding and losing control on a road that was wet with rain.
The Kaduna Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Tijjani Iliyasu, described the response in detail, saying: “The driver lost control of the car. The road had slick conditions and was drenched. We determined that he was speeding and collided with those who were standing on the side of the road.
Six people instantly perished. We rescued the injured right away and took them to the hospital. When we got there, the driver and other people in the car had already left. The automobile was abandoned under the cover of darkness. The identity of the driver is unknown to us.
He further stated that the Nigerian Police had been tasked with looking into the matter further.
Iliyasu stated, “The car has been turned over to the police as of right now, and they ought to be able to track down the owner.”
“At the scene, we were focused on saving lives, and we succeeded in doing so.”

As of the filing of this story, it was discovered that the Nigeria Police Force’s Kaduna State leadership has not offered any remarks on the matter.
Since DSP Mansir Hassan’s phone line was down when this story was being made, the media claims that several attempts to get in touch with the Police Public Relations Officer were fruitless.
Additionally, the state administration has not issued a public statement since Monday’s catastrophe.
The bereaved families have joined the community in calling for swift justice and government intervention.
Imam Rabiu, a community leader and Barakallahu citizen, prayed to Allah for the pardon of those killed in the occurrence.
“The catastrophe completely destroyed the community. Since the deaths of eight family members in one night was a horrific tragedy, the entire village fell silent that night. According to Rabiu, “May Allah pardon them.”
Adam, a Barakallahu local, too called the event “dreadful and painful.”
“Many lives were lost, so it was a terrible incident,” he remarked plainly.
The family, according to Mai Yadi, is left to grieve in silence.
“Our loved ones are buried. Both of us have prayed. The ache, however, is still there. Empathy from those in authority and those in charge is the very least we can expect,” he remarked.
