A three-day warning strike has been declared by the Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to begin on Tuesday, May 6.
The physicians made the decision following an emergency congress meeting, which was held at the Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja on Monday.
Dr. George Ebong, the president of FCT ARD, stated after the meeting that the strike was required since the FCT Civil Service Commission had fired 127 health professionals last Friday without conducting adequate due diligence.
He demanded that they be immediately reinstated and that their April salaries be paid, calling the dismissal cruel and unlawful.
Emeka Ezeh, the chairman of the FCT-CSC, was also urged to quit immediately.
In the event that their demands are not fulfilled by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the FCT Administration, Ebong threatened to go on an indefinite strike and close the country’s capital hospitals.
“We are starting a three-day warning strike since the majority of the members left the service on Friday without giving it any thought. Despite the fact that these colleagues of ours are still employed today, they were labeled as ghost workers, ex-employees, and absconders.
It is inhumane of the FCTA service commission to make such a judgment without consulting the Permanent Secretary of Health, the Association of Resident Physicians, the Medical & Dental Consultant Association of Nigeria, or MDCAN. Nurses, pharmacists, and lab scientists are also impacted, in addition to physicians.
“These hospitals’ managing directors are unaware of it. Actually, it affects three MDs.
There are 127 health personnel impacted. What are the working conditions of these hospitals if these numbers are ghost workers? Hospitals would have fallen apart. How many people work at FCT hospitals?
The pay of the impacted healthcare workers were halted without warning. the last month’s salary. This is blatantly unfair to healthcare professionals and insensitive.

“All impacted healthcare professionals must receive their salaries immediately.
An apology letter to the medical staff members that were impacted.
Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the chairman of the service commission, resigned immediately.
He said, “It is a three-day warning beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 8 am, and if within the first three days (Friday, May 9, 2025) our demands are not met, we will go on an indefinite strike after an appraisal.”
