A nine-member committee has been formed by the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Governing Council to investigate allegations of sexual harassment against the university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
This decision was made as a result of the Vice-Chancellor’s unethical actions, according to a female employee named Mrs. Folasade Adebayo.
In a statement released on Friday, Registrar and Council Secretary Mufutau A. Ibrahim instructed the committee to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and determine the accuracy of the allegations within three weeks.
According to him, the committee should be able to pinpoint the main problem and present its findings to the Council in the allocated time.
“At its emergency meeting on Friday, January 24, 2025, the Governing Council noted that online organizations, the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), and it was published a series of audio tapes alleging that the Vice-Chancellor sexually harassed Engr. Mrs. Folashade Adebayo, a Deputy Director, of Works in the University,” the press release continued.
“The Council excused the Vice-Chancellor from the meeting due to his accusations.”
According to Ibrahim, the Governing Council acknowledged that the Federal University Oye-Ekiti has recently made news for the wrong reasons and that the negative stories are detracting from the university’s remarkable achievements after carefully considering the issues.
“After that, the Council formed a nine-member committee with the following mandate to thoroughly examine the allegations and address the core of the matter in three weeks:
“Investigate the source of the viral audio recording alleging the immoral moves by the Vice-Chancellor and the purchase of the positions of the Bursar and Registrar;” the purpose of the committee.
“To investigate why the recording was made; to examine how the recording gained popularity on social media;
“To investigate Mrs. Folasade Adebayo’s allegations, namely the allegation of unethical advances made against the vice chancellor, Prof. Abayomi S. Fasina;
Examining all previous actions and initiatives by the police, the immediate past chairman of the Council, and others is required to refute the charges made by Engineer Folasade Adebayo against Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi S. Fasina.
“To look into any additional issues regarding the claims.”
He stated that the Council intends to address the committee’s report at its upcoming meeting, which is scheduled for the third week of February 2025.
“In the meantime, the Council wishes to encourage members of the University community and the general public to remain calm and focused as the Council is determined to do justice and there will be no sacred cows,” Ibrahim said.
According to previous reports, he denied the charges during his conversation with Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of FUOYE.
“The Governing Council will form a committee to examine the issue,” he stated.
He went on to say that it is early to consider suspending someone. It is completely premature because my predecessor tried to resolve the matter amicably by having the parties talk about it before I arrived.
Engineer Adebayo also persisted in writing another petition, suggesting that she was not satisfied. Furthermore, these recordings have become more accessible and come in a variety of formats.
We therefore agreed that the council should establish a committee. The council is having an emergency meeting this morning to discuss a particular matter. As a result, a committee will be established to hear from Mrs. Adebayo and the vice chancellor.
We will then look at all previous attempts, including police investigations, as the police had already investigated this matter and there is a police record. It asked about allegations that the council would suspend Engineer Adebayo and whether Ndoma-Egba had chosen a side in the conflict.
“I mentioned that the council is forming a committee today,” he responded.
It would have been improper for me to state my position if I had picked a side because I support the chancellor. However, all decisions must be made by the council, not the pro chancellor. As a result, we had to convene an emergency council meeting to discuss the issue.

“I think someone is simply being mischievous. I mentioned that on November 20, I was appointed Pro Chancellor of the University. The union went to the press on November 25. I was not even given the opportunity to intervene.
Since then, they have petitioned the minister directly. Every organization has procedures in place for managing grievances.
They will look into all of these issues. Yesterday, I met with the unions. all unions except ASUU. The quote is therefore untrue, save for playing the recording of my remarks, which is wholly out of context. Very little resembles what I said.
