Six people, including a pregnant mother and five final-year nursing students, perished in a deadly car accident on Tuesday along the Kwara axis of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway.
Families and coworkers of the dead were reportedly in grief following the catastrophe, which happened in Kwara State’s Ote region. This was especially true since the students were reportedly en route to take their second semester exams.
According to reports, a number of the victims were declared dead at the scene of the collision, while others passed away from their injuries at an unnamed hospital after being sent there for immediate medical attention.
The hit was said to have caused significant traffic congestion along the busy roadway, despite the fact that information regarding the vehicles involved and the crash’s immediate cause was still hazy at the time of publication.
The deceased students were identified as 500-level undergraduates enrolled in an Open and Distance Learning Bachelor of Nursing Science program at an Oyo State university.
The unfortunate tragedy apparently happened when they were traveling to take their exams for the second semester.
Colleagues called the death “heartbreaking and painful,” pointing out that the students were nearing the end of their degree, and it has left their academic community in mourning.
The crash happened in the Kwara end of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso route, precisely in the Ote region, according to Rosemary Alo, the Kwara State Commandant of the Federal route Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the incident.
“To restore normal traffic flow on the highway, our personnel are collaborating with the Kwara State Command,” she stated.
She did not, however, immediately reveal the number of cars involved or the accident’s likely cause.
