Maja Umeh was the previous Information Commissioner in Anambra State during the Peter Obi government.
In Amaku-Awka, the capital of Anambra State, Umeh died in the emergency room of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital (COOUTH).
Along with his immediate relatives, a number of well-known state officials paid a visit to the hospital where his remains are being kept.
Those that paid a visit included Prof. Ken Nwogu, husband of Mrs. Uju Nwogu, the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Anambra State under the most recent Chief Willie Obiano administration. Top officials from the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the current state governor, were among the other guests.
In the meantime, Helen Owie, the wife of former Senate Chief Whip Senator Rowland Owie, has apparently died.

According to a statement written by her husband and made public on Wednesday, April 9, Helen was 71 years old when she passed away.
She passed away quietly in Abuja on Wednesday after a brief illness, the statement added.
After more than 50 years of marriage, Owie stated, “She lovingly made our home a safe space when she came into my life more than 50 years ago.” I am the only surviving child of my father’s eleven children, and she brought my family together and treated my late mother, Aghatise Owie, with the utmost respect and compassion.
“She held my family and friends together with her faith, grace, and strength, and she showed them unwavering love.”
Owie continued, saying, “Helen was a true devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary.” She was a God-fearing woman, a superb resource manager, and a loving wife and mother. Her life was an example of selflessness, generosity, and unwavering dedication. She was my partner in everything, my pillar, and my source of tranquility. Our family life was built on her unwavering faith and quiet strength.
