After being held captive by Boko Haram for four years, two boys have been reunited with their families, according to the Borno state police command.
The youngsters, identified as Ayuba Ishaku and Yakubu Haruna, both around 13, arrived at the divisional police headquarters in Maiduguri on July 12, according to a statement released by the state’s police spokesperson, Nahum Daso, on Tuesday.
Daso claimed that in 2019, an attack on Mandaragrau village in Biu LGA, Borno state, resulted in the kidnapping of the youngsters together with other women and children.
He mentioned that they were brought to the Baga in Kukawa LGA’s Mangari and Tumbun Mota neighborhoods, where they were imprisoned.
The lads described how they were made to work as domestic helpers and trained to service firearms, according to the police spokesperson.
He claimed that following months of preparation, they were able to make their getaway on the evening of July 8 by using the fact that many terrorists had gone on operations.
Before arriving in Maiduguri on July 12, 2025, they made their way through the woods to neighboring villages and communities, according to the statement.

According to Daso, the boys were placed into protective custody at the ITE division and given care prior to attempts to locate their family at the commissioner of police’s request.
Ishaku Gaji, the father of one of the boys, acknowledged that they were among the several people kidnapped on December 29, 2019, the police spokeswoman continued.
According to him, the kids have been sent to the Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs for a thorough debriefing as part of the “Borno Model,” a government initiative that aids in the recovery and reintegration of victims of terrorism.
Naziru Abdulmajid, the Borno police commissioner, praised the boys’ bravery and stated that the command is still dedicated to safeguarding the public and collaborating with relevant parties to address the state’s security issues.
The public is urged by the leadership to exercise caution and notify security services right away of any suspicious activity, Daso stated.
