The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has been cautioned by activist Jake Epelle of Rivers to cease threatening to remove his estranged successor, Siminalayi Fubara, from office.
According to reports, Wike said during a media parley in Abuja on Wednesday that lawmakers have the constitutional authority to remove Fubara if they believe he has committed crimes that could lead to his impeachment, such as allegedly depriving them of their paychecks for months.
But in an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show on Thursday, Epelle claimed that Wike could not support peace while encouraging his supporters in the legislative body led by Martins Amaewhule to remove Fubara from office.
Since Fubara had not committed any crimes that would have led to his impeachment and the state’s citizens firmly supported him, the activist insisted that no one would impeach him.
It is unjust, Epeller continued, that members of the House of Assembly are following the FCT minister’s instructions.
Letting them go and trying to impeach them won’t work, he said. No one is going to impeach Fubara. I publicly state that on national television because he hasn’t done anything that would make him impeachable. The public is firmly in favor of him, and no one will impeach him.
What will happen if he is removed from office? We will support him (Fubara) and democracy, but the Rivers people are not as difficult as we are portrayed to be.
It might happen to anyone else if we don’t stop the chaos from spreading. This ongoing impeachment threat need to end.
“Wike is not authorized by the constitution to remove a governor from office. Despite not being a member of the State Assembly, he has the authority to call for impeachment.

The State Assembly members will carry out the impeachment process, although he is free to advocate for his (Fubara’s) removal personally.

“As the governor approached the gate, I was informed that the assembly members received a call from Abuja—I’m not sure who made the call—informing them not to meet the governor.
Someone is playing a drum someplace, and the state assembly members are either acting out the script that was provided to them or dancing to the beats. That’s really unjust.
