Elderstatesman Bernard Mikko of Rivers State has endorsed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that the change was essential for the state’s general welfare, political protection, and self-preservation.
Mikko stated in an interview with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday that Fubara’s defection was not surprising, pointing to the PDP’s demise as a viable political platform in Rivers State and throughout the South.
According to Mikko, political circumstances in Rivers State and throughout Nigeria frequently force leaders to support government and identify themselves with parties that can protect their positions.
He characterized Fubara’s move as a logical reaction to the PDP’s failure to uphold party discipline and safeguard its members.
“The political climate necessitates that leaders make strategic decisions,” Mikko stated.
