The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has suspended the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Akuku-Toru local government area of the state, Otonye Briggs.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

He said the chairman’s suspension took immediate effect.

However, no reason was given for Briggs’ suspension.

The governor inaugurated the caretaker committee for the 23 LGAs in June.

This followed the expiration of the three-year tenure of the elected council officials in the state.

The statement read: “The Governor has directed Hon. Bitebobo Amiee to immediately take over as chairperson.

“Mr. Briggs is hereby directed to hand over all council property in his possession to the (new) Caretaker Committee Chairperson.”
