Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State’s Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport received approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on Friday to start operating commercial flights.
In accordance with Part 12.15.17 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs), the airport was authorized to operate scheduled commercial air transport flights through the issuance of an interim aerodrome operational permit.
Two weekly cargo flights from London to the airport, which would also be the designated alternate airport to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, are anticipated to be operated by a large international aviation business after clearance.
The first passenger flights to be operational would be direct to Abuja and Port Harcourt.
It is anticipated that the action will increase Ogun State’s tourism, trade, and investment.

Recall that in December of last year, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) were among the aviation industry’s regulatory bodies that visited the airport and praised the standard of facilities installed and their degree of completion.
The airport’s facilities, which included the Control Tower, Weather Monitoring Areas, Runway, Fire Service Stations, and the Apron, were deemed to be of international quality and a source of pride for Ogun State. They also stated that the airport’s facilities were still among the best in West Africa.
During that time, Ango Mohammed, the NCAA’s Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, had observed that the airport’s facilities had significantly improved since his last visit, “now at the level of any other tower in every standard airport around the globe.”
