According to Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), God forewarned him not to leave the denomination or risk losing his firstborn child.
According to reports, Adeboye revealed this at the June Holy Ghost Service, which was conducted on Friday at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State and was headlined “Destined for Greatness (Part 2).”
Speaking on the subject of spiritual constancy and divine direction, Adeboye voiced alarm over a growing trend among young Christians who go to different churches regularly and introduce themselves as newcomers at each new institution.
According to the clergy, who recalled his spiritual path, God clearly told him to stay in the RCCG even though popular and alluring ministries were in place when he was born again.
At the time, he said, RCCG was a little-known organization with its main office housed in a small structure in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
“God commanded me to serve under my spiritual mentor, who had no formal education,” Pastor Adeboye said, even though he was a university lecturer.

In contrast to following fads or inclinations, he exhorted young believers to seek spiritual direction and stay where God has placed them.
Adebpye went on to say that his point was not to imply that RCCG is better than other Christian groups.
“When I was born again, there were three major ministries that were very good and making waves,” he stated. The incentives to switch between them were various. But I heard God say, “I brought you here, son.” You’ll be staying here. You will lose your firstborn child the day you leave this denomination.
“I was a university lecturer. My father in heaven did not complete primary or even secondary school. But God said, “You’ll stay here.”
“Stay where God has instructed you to stay.”
“I’m not saying we’re superior to other denominations.”
