Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has responded to critics, accusing them of being PDP members who were pretending to be All Progressives Congress (APC) members in order to sabotage his 2027 reelection campaign.
Most of the others who joined him in defecting to the APC are traitors, he claims. He said that he will deal with the matter when the time was appropriate.
He recalled that previous governors had experienced the same political scheming by troublemakers and asked, “You fight structure, fight structure, what are you going to do with my structure?” He issued a warning that he would not put up with such antics from his purported supporters.
He had previously stated, however, that “I don’t have power like Wike.” The FCT minister stated that in order to battle for structure, he would personally verify the loyalty of his appointees by identifying, via their membership cards in various wards, the genuine loyalists who actually defected with him to the APC.
In honor of the 38th anniversary of the State’s founding, the governor expressed his thoughts during a special interdenominational Thanksgiving ceremony that was held over the weekend at the International Christian Worship Centre (ICWC), located on Udoudoma Avenue in Uyo, the State capital.
He warned that he would not tolerate any opposition to his ambition for a second term and urged those he characterized as his political critics to turn from their ways.
“Most of you (the appointees) attend the APC meeting during the day and the PDP meeting at night,” he revealed, adding that he has sent monitoring tentacles throughout the state to identify those who are engaging in double dealing as we move closer to 2027.
Eno promised to oppose such activities and to personally crash such nighttime gatherings to expose individuals engaging in parallel politics. While he was working to create a United State of Akwa Ibom, he noted, he questioned why communists still used split tones.
As a result, he exhorted the populace to forgive one another and refrain from needless hostility that could endanger the state’s tranquility.
Together, let’s move on, forgive one another, and unite in love. Let us strategize and strive for our state’s overall welfare. I really do want that. Seeing people from different political parties coming together in this way makes me happy. Everyone who is patriotic ought to care about the state and be somewhat patriotic. I believe that’s the purpose of this oneness.
“We should transcend ethnicity. Rise above ethnicity, rise above parochialism, and rise above ingrained hatred—this is an urgent cry. Apart from this state, you won’t have any others. We are a single, cohesive Akwa Ibom. “I took over the United States of Akwa Ibom, and I will give it to you in this way; nothing will separate us,” Eno emphasized.
In addition to pledging to continue working with previous leaders, he emphasized the importance of each leader’s past accomplishments and paid tribute to their legacies.
In addition to praising the leadership of the state’s political parties for their remarkable unity, maturity, and understanding, the governor also thanked previous leaders and interested parties for attending the occasion.
