The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir-Yusuf, has ordered the closure of all bank accounts operated by Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.

Kabir-Yusuf, who gave the directive at a meeting in the Government House in Kano on Wednesday, ordered that they be merged into a single account.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shehu Sagagi, Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), Zayyid Abubakar, commissioners, heads of MDAs in the state, and banks’ representatives.

The governor said the move was to check fraud in the MDAs.

He threatened to sanction any ministry or agency that failed to comply with the directive within one week.

“The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct,” he stated.

On his part, the KIRS chairman unveiled a new plan for tax collection under the unified account system.
