On July 1st, the Lagos State administration will fully implement the ban on single-use plastics.
This was revealed on X on Monday by Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Environment Commissioner.
According to him, for the past 18 months, the state government has enlisted the help of product manufacturers and marketers.
In January 2024, the state government outlawed the use of single-use plastics and Styrofoam containers throughout the state.
“We re-emphasized this stand during a courtesy visit by the management of TETRA PAK West Africa Limited, led by the Managing Director, Haithem Debbiche,” Wahab stated.

This has to do with being environmentally conscious. Additionally, we have allowed enough time to conform to international best practices. In Lagos, things that are inappropriate elsewhere cannot become the norm. We have a responsibility to safeguard our future and act morally for the benefit of society.
“Scoring points is not our goal. Our purpose is to complete the task. We will demand accountability and responsibility, just as we did with the successful implementation of the Styrofoam ban. If we all do our share, we can create a cleaner, healthier Lagos.
