After Mubarak Zakari, the youngest son of the late former Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ibrahim Zakari, passed away, the Zakari family was struck by two tragedies.
Mubarak, 34, died a few hours after his father was buried.
Ambassador Zakari passed away in Abuja on Sunday morning at the age of 81. He was the Director-General of the NIA from 1995 to 1998 and was the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in the early 1990s.
The same day, his remains were taken to his homeland of Katsina for interment.
Mubarak seemed to be in good health on the way to Katsina, where he traveled with his father’s remains together with mourners and family, according to PRNigeria.
Mubarak had a strong relationship with his father, and the emotional toll of the loss overwhelmed him, according to family sources cited by PRNigeria. He died a few hours after his father was buried.

At the Mubarak family’s home in GRA, Katsina, a funeral prayer was said on Monday.
Many people are shocked by the turn of events, and the family and community are in sorrow as a result of the unexpected fatalities.
In addition to spearheading Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts under former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ambassador Zakari was highly regarded for his contributions to the nation’s diplomatic and intelligence endeavors.
