Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Matters to President Bola Tinubu, has stated that, while he had plenty to give in terms of political counsel, which was the reason for his appointment, he was unable to contribute significantly in that role.
It was recalled that Baba-Ahmed, who was appointed as Vice President Kashim Shettima’s Special Adviser on Political Matters in 2023, resigned in April 2025.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, May 1, 2025, Baba-Ahmed stated that he resigned because the Tinubu administration lacked the determination to fix Nigeria.

Baba-Ahmed said he couldn’t continue working with a government that no longer has the people’s mandate to effect change, particularly in addressing poverty and insecurity in the North, which he claimed had increased under Tinubu.

According to him, Tinubu demanded a personal meeting, but he declined because he would have told him things he didn’t want to hear, such as not running for a second term in 2027.

He suggested Tinubu endorse a younger, more enthusiastic candidate from his party for the presidency in 2027 instead of pursuing re-election himself.

When asked if he would retake the opportunity, Baba-Ahmed stated that he does not regret working with the President but would decline the option to return if offered again.

He responded, “The way the Tinubu government is going, no. I didn’t do any work. I was meant to advise the President on political things while working in the Vice President’s office, but I didn’t.”
