More than two-thirds of the 40-member legislative body impeached Mudashiru Obasa on Monday, January 14, 2025, after he had served as Speaker of the Lagos State body of Assembly for approximately ten years due to allegations of misbehavior and other misdeeds.
Immediately elected as the new Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Obasa’s deputy, became the first woman to lead the South-West state’s legislature.

Obasa was first elected to the House in 2007 and was from Agege Constituency I. He has been in the chamber ever since. He was removed in January 2025 after becoming speaker in June 2015.
