In response to recent accusations that he stole ₦5 million from the ransom intended to free a kidnapped couple in Edo State, Nigerian activist Harrison Gwamnishu issued a public apology.
Recall that Harrison, who is well-known for helping rescue victims of kidnapping, was detained in December 2025 after being charged with taking a portion of the ransom. On December 19, 2025, the Edo State High Court granted him bail.
Many people, especially social media critic VeryDarkMan, have been criticizing Harrison since his release for allegedly taking money from people to assist them handle their problems but not keeping his word.
In the midst of the scandal, Harrison Gwamnishu acknowledged in an Instagram post on Saturday that he had failed to manage the resources assigned to him for kidnapping cases.
Harrison Gwamnishu acknowledged his error as well and begged everyone to give him some time to reimburse them.
“Harrison Gwamnishu, good morning,” he said. It’s January 3, 2026, and I’m here to apologize to everyone I may have offended in the course of my duties, whether through recordings or posts. You’ll see that I’m not very good at dragging personalities when you see me, and I apologize deeply.
“I’ve made mistakes.” I own up to my errors. I have committed blunders in the course of my work and duties. I truly apologize for my lack of accountability in handling the resources that were assigned to me in certain situations. The woman gave me N600,000 to do her job, which I completed independently and without consulting her. I think she trusted me, so I’m sorry that someone sent me that money. Madam Tudja, I apologize.
I then gave the matter to someone when Franklin called me to help him handle it. As you are aware, we talked about it and the payment schedule. I started paying you on a monthly basis in November, and I have already paid for December and January. No matter how difficult it is for me, I’m going to clear all of this money.
“I apologize for offending someone else. You can DM me if you can, and I’ll make sure that everything is fixed. I’m the one wearing the shoe, I made mistakes, and I’m the one coming out today to apologize to everyone who might find it offensive. Seeing those who supported me when I was incarcerated come out to say they are no longer with me indicates that it’s time for me to apologize.
Additionally, I’m here to apologize to Verydarkman. I have much respect for you. I didn’t think you were a bad guy from the beginning. You have greatly benefited both Nigerians and me. In the past, you have contacted me and said, “Someone made a complaint; see how to resolve it.” Despite my best efforts, I may not have handled it well. I also want to express my gratitude for speaking up for Nigerians.
