A housewife, Safiya Yusuf, has approached an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), seeking the dissolution of her 26-year-old marriage to her husband, Muhammed Kusa, on the grounds of lack of love and affection.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Safiya, a mother of five, told the court that she got married to Muhammed according to Islamic laws in November 1998.
She said that she does not love her husband anymore and begged the court to dissolve their marriage.
The respondent, however, said he was still in love with his wife and needed time to settle their differences.
“I still love my wife. Our families have met for reconciliation and they will meet again concerning the matter.
“I want the court to give me time,” he said.
The petitioner, however, said that their families had not met before concerning them, adding that she does not want them to meet over the issue.
The Judge, Mohammed Wakili, advised the respondent to try his best to reconcile with his wife.
He then adjourned the case.
