The federal government has denied reports that President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are at odds, stating that the two leaders are still united and continue to collaborate “perfectly.”
The president and his deputy are rumored to have had a falling out in recent weeks, and Tinubu may be considering a different running mate for the 2027 presidential election, according to rumors.
In response, however, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, said the rumors were the result of popular imagination in an interview on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on Wednesday.
He stated, “Those who wish to believe that this feud exists in their imagination.” The president and vice president walked side by side in the room I was in. I am referring to recent times.
The minister strongly objected to the question of whether the president was thinking of dropping Shettima for the upcoming election.
Then he said, “Who told you? Were you able to hear Shettima’s name before President Tinubu received his ticket? The presidential prerogative is to select a running partner.
“Kashim Shettima is his choice. Together, they are collaborating flawlessly. Nothing I’ve seen suggests that the president wants to fire his vice president.
APC North-East Support Stirred Up Political Trouble
Mustapha Salihu, the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) North-East, officially supported President Tinubu’s 2027 goal without bringing up Vice President Shettima, which sparked the uproar.
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum reportedly led a protest over the omission since it was seen as a blow to Shettima, who is from the area.
There were unverified rumors that Shettima had previously been refused access to the President at the Villa, something the government now categorically denies, which fueled the rumor mill.
