The new yam festival celebration was a very enchanting and colourful event attended by a number of guest, royals and VIPs from the igbo tribe, to showcase the Igbo culture in its richness on Saturday, 29th October, 2022.
The event was held at the premises of NTA channel 10 complex in Tejuosho Yaba. A special appearance was also made by the popular BB Naija winner in 2021 Shina Ya Eyes episodes, Hazel Onyeze Onoduenyi aka White Money who was also coronated by the royals of the Igbo speaking community with Sunday Eze as chairman, he was conferred with the title “Ugwu Ndigbo” in Lagos state.
Guest who stormed in to celebrate the new yam festival noted that it was a fun filled day, a day the igbos in diaspora meets to celebrate in one accord while appreciating the custodians of the igbo tradition.
A media chat with Eze Chika Nwokedi, one of the royals present, he said:
“I want the igbos to become one, let us love one another and be of good conduct as it is also good for us to celebrate our culture every year.
The igbos should imbibe the act of helping one another which is also a reason why we organise gatherings such as this to bring us together despite our differences.”
Eze Chika further appreciates the essence of the event, he told Naomi Sophy Blog of how he coordinated those within his jurisdiction of rule to participate by attending to further express unity amongst his people.
Eze Chika also advised that all igbos especially the royals who are leaders that should be emulated, to live as one, to promote unity and extinguish envy as all have come into this world with nothing and will leave with nothing. Therefore, pride, hate and envy should never exist amongst the igbos against your brother, sister as well as tribes men. Royals are earthly leaders, the supreme leader is the Almighty God who never dies. As humans we will reap what we sow and as such, should be wary of bad attitudes and negative mindset he said.

The new yam festival is always a happy moment to cheer and merry and as such, the igbo speaking community will continue to promote the igbo culture to its fullest heritage, let peace and love lead, Eze Chika stated.
