Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, has appointed a special team to investigate the serious charges made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
According to reports, Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello were accused by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of conspiring to kill her.
Akpabio responded by sending a petition to the IGP on April 3rd, copying the Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister, Lateef Fagbemi.

The senator’s remarks were deemed “defamatory” by the Senate President, who also called on authorities to take legal action to protect him and maintain peace.

The IGP having already taken action on the petition, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the situation to The Nation.
Indeed, we have received the plea from Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate. Adejobi said, “A team has been instructed by the IGP to look into it.

The senator made the claims in a homecoming speech to her supporters on April 1, claiming that the unsuccessful attempt to recall her from the Senate was the reason behind the purported plot to have her removed.

Before making her allegations public, she informed the audience that she had previously filed an official report with the police.

According to a comment from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, “Remember, two days prior to that, Akpabio had called Governor Ododo to start my recall, but Ododo informed him it would not be possible.” This happened on March 13 at 10:00 p.m. Ododo told Akpabio that the recall will be hard because the masses are with me. Unsatisfied, however, Akpabio summoned Yahaya Bello. Everything was told to me.

The meeting had two purposes. They instructed him to start the recall process and promised to provide the funding. He suggested that he try to murder me as his second statement. I wrote to the Inspector General of Police, but I didn’t make this public.

The senator claimed that Akpabio advised Yahaya Bello to ensure that the murder of him did not take place in Abuja but rather here, where it would appear as though the murderers were locals.
