Two suspected armed robbers have been mobbed and lynched to death by an irate mob for allegedly killing a commercial motorcycle operator and snatching his motorcycle in Misau, headquarters of Misau LGA of Bauchi State.

The confirmation was made by the State Police Command which also confirmed the gruesome killing of the 25 year old commercial motorcycle operator, Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir.

While confirming the development vide a mobile telephone conversation, the Command PPRO, SP Ahmed Wakili said, “Yes, there was a case of conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide. On the 18th of August 2024, at about 2200hrs, the Police in Misau, received an information from a good Samaritan who said that he saw a body lying down in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma in the outskirts of Misau town.”

The PPRO added that,”On receiving the information, the DPO, Misau Police Division, led a team of Detectives to the scene and discovered that the victim’s throat was stilted and cut with a knife.”

According to him, “The detectives moved the victim’s body to the General Hospital, Misau where he was confirmed dead by a Medical Doctor.”

Ahmed Wakili added that, “The victim was later identified as one Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir of Sabon Layi in Misau town, 25 years old and a commercial motorcycle operator popularly called Achaba.”

“His motorcycle, Boxer, was snatched and carted away by the suspected armed robbers. His remains was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic injunction,” he added.

He added that, “Then, on the 19th of August 2024, Monday, two suspects were arrested by the Police with the said motorcycle along the Misau – Kari road where they were lynched by irate mob which burnt one of the bodies to ashes but the motorcycle was recovered.”

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Mohammed while reacting to the ugly incident, frowned at the actions of the irate youths who instead of taking the suspects to Police custody for proper investigations, mobbed the suspects that were arrested by the Police.

According to him, “They (mob) overpowered the Police, took them out of the possession of the Police and killed the suspects. This was barbaric and inimical to the laws governing our dear country.”

The Commissioner of Police therefore warned residents of the state that the Command under his stewardship will not tolerate or allow some recalcitrants in the society to continue to take the laws into their hands by killing suspects who were duly and promptly arrested by the Police for an alleged crime in a dehumanized and unlawful manner.

He therefore further warned that nobody has any rights to treat a suspect in such a barbaric manner and it was wrong for anyone to assume the position of law enforcement agencies.

The suspects apprehended in connection with the crime should be allowed to be duly investigated by the Police or any other security agencies saddled with the responsibility to investigate and prosecute such suspects, he noted.
