Isaac, the brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for detaining Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist.
According to reports, Sowore was taken into custody on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, just after he showed support for Nnamdi Kanu, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader who was in custody.
In an interview with News Central on Thursday, Fayose said he was disappointed that Sowre had been detained and charged Tinubu with trying to stifle opponents.
He claimed that Sowore had been fighting for police officers’ rights, such as their pension and gratuity, but that he was being arrested by the same security personnel.
Fayose added that former President Goodluck Jonathan had permitted Tinubu to demonstrate freely and asked why the president was hurting Nigerians during demonstrations.
“No, you see,” he responded, “the police and law enforcement officers we currently have are cash and carry. I don’t care if they carry me tomorrow because they are in pain. Even while someone is working for your rights, pension, and betterment, you continue to work for your slave owners.
Protests overseas are nonviolent. Why is there so much intimidation, shootings, and barriers here? Sowore’s opinion is shared by millions of Nigerians. Was Tinubu arrested by previous President Goodluck Jonathan when he was not in office? Jonathan gave him carte blanche to protest. Why, therefore, is Tinubu now harming us?
Omoyele Sowore has fulfilled her obligation. His goal was to demand our rights. A sin against God and humanity is committed by every Nigerian who does not stand up for their rights.
Nigerians must support those who fight for justice, Fayose added, calling Sowore a great patriot and hero.
“Our hero is Omoyele Sowore,” he continued. We don’t have any more.
