A Sokoto State-based Islamic cleric, Mallam Bello Asada, has accused the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle of sponsoring several bandit leaders including Bello Turji, Ada Allero, and Sububu who have been holding states in the North-East to ransom.

Asada, who made the allegations in a video posted on the X platform on Sunday night by counter-insurgency expert, Makama Zagazola, alleged that the former Zamfara State governor bought Hilux vehicles for the bandit leaders and also made huge funds available to them.

He also described as a joke the recent N20 million bounty placed on Turji by the Federal Government.

The cleric declared that Matawalle was not serious with the fight to dislodge the notorious bandit leaders and their gangs as he knows their hideouts.

“The Prominent Cleric in Sokoto State has accused the State Minister of Defence of buying Hilux vehicles to top Bandits like Sububu, Ada Allero, and Bello Turji and he provides video evidence,” Makama wrote.

“He described as a joke the bounty placed on Bello Turji head. The cleric said the statement of the minister saying that he will reward anybody N20 million who knows where the security can find Bello Turji was a joke and a skit making, emphasizing that the Minister knows BELLO TURJI and where he can find him.”
