On Saturday, ISWAP and Boko Haram terrorists launched a coordinated attack on communities in Chibok Local Government, Borno State, but were stopped by troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai.
According to military sources, the attack occurred early on Saturday morning. However, soldiers quickly reacted with superior weaponry, engaging the attackers in a two-hour gunfight that resulted in a retreat toward the infamous Timbuktu Triangle.
In a phone chat with Vanguard, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume of Borno South, whose area includes Chibok, acknowledged the breach and said his local coordinator had called him in despair.
“Some areas in Chibok were overrun by Boko Haram/ISWAP, but military drove them out. In Kwada village, a local church was destroyed and two people were tragically killed, Ndume said.
Senator Ndume expressed sympathy to the victims’ families as well as the Chibok community as a whole.
In addition to asking the military and other security organizations to step up efforts to bring complete peace back to Southern Borno and the entire nation, he prayed for the deceased’s souls to rest.
According to a different defense source, no soldiers were killed during the operation.
“The soldiers were vigilant and skillfully stopped the assault.” The insider stated, “There were no casualties on our end and no equipment was impacted.
According to sources, during a subsequent air interdiction, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) killed a large number of the escaping fighters.
When ground forces requested air support after the terrorists withdrew, NAF combat aircraft were immediately sent to the designated withdrawal axis.
“A large number of the fighters were destroyed and their movement was disrupted by the NAF jet’s precise and devastating strikes along the terrorists’ escape route,” the source continued.
The sources claim that NAF combat aircraft carried out four significant attacks in the direction of the Timbuktu Triangle as the terrorists were making their escape. Ground forces from the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4, Operation Hadin Kai provided real-time intelligence that directed the strikes.
According to the individuals who spoke to Vanguard, the initial round of attacks “achieved significant degradation of the hostile elements” by targeting a group of terrorists who were fleeing and trying to reorganize.
Additional pockets of combatants scattering into forested areas were the target of subsequent strikes.
The sources also revealed that an unmanned aerial platform carried out further attacks in addition to the four manned-aircraft strikes.
“The platform engaged with high precision and maintained constant ISR coverage.” Its attacks interrupted the retreating fighters’ movement pattern and further decimated them, according to the sources.
