Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai chose to join the effort to establish a coalition against President Bola Tinubu after failing to get a job in the current administration, according to former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman Hilliard Eta.
According to reports, El-Rufai, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), have been leading the effort to establish a coalition against Tinubu.
Eta stated that El-Rufai is not unique during an appearance on AIT Focus Nigeria, emphasizing that he and other individuals played a greater role in Tinubu’s election as president than the former governor.

The APC chieftain said Tinubu is the maestro of coalition building and rejected the coalition move.
He claimed that the majority of them had once been friends with the current president, and that El-Rufai believed he may be appointed Minister under Asiwaju.

Let me explain to El-Rufai that if we are unable to serve as ministers, then there is nothing unique about the president and that individuals like us had a greater role in his creation than he did.
This man (Tinubu) had close allies like Kwankwaso and Aregbesola; these individuals are self-centered and narrow-minded.
When you are fighting and trying to establish a coalition, keep in mind that this person is an expert at it; he has been involved in coalition formation since NADECO’s founding.
The reality is that many of our people are drawn to politics for self-preservation rather than enlightenment, so what you are doing now is merely a game for him. If it hasn’t reached you yet, why do you believe it won’t at some point? Everyone benefits if the nation improves, even if it doesn’t affect you personally.
