Veteran Jamaican dancehall singer, Mark Anthony Myrie aka Buju Banton, has revealed his Nigerian roots to the surprise of his fans.
The “Destiny” crooner, who opened up during his recent appearance on the popular Drink Champs podcast co-hosted by N.O.R.E and DJ EFN, revealed his Igbo heritage.
The singer said his tribe is the Morons, who descended from the Igbo people.
He, however, conveyed great anxiety about the state of affairs in his nation, saying the native Maroon territories are in danger.

Additionally, Buju Banton said the Jamaican government had permitted the Chinese and other foreigners to move into their area and uproot the Maroon people.
He said: “Our Indigenous way of life and our land are being threatened by the current government of Jamaica which seeks to bring Chinese and other nationalities into the Cockpit region which is an Indigenous sacred region to usurp us the Maroons as the warriors.
“Maroons are some of the Indigenous warriors on my Island. We fought the British relentlessly. We are called Blackmaroons. My generation originated from Nigeria. I am an Igbo man according to my bloodline.”
