Due to accusations of extortion of two million five hundred thousand naira (N2.5 million) from a citizen, the Delta State Police Command has ordered the removal and redeployment of Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Jesse Division in Ethiopia-West Local Government Area, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, to the State Headquarters.

In relation to the case, a police policeman named Bright has been taken into custody. Additionally, CP Adesola directed the Command’s AC X-Squad to look into the situation.

In a statement issued to our correspondent in Warri, SP Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, verified the claim.

“The Command is aware of the viral video recording of a woman who claims that one officer, Officer Usman, and DPO Jesse demanded two million five hundred thousand naira (N2,500,000) from her in exchange for the release of her brother, who is currently in custody,” he stated. The command wants to say the following after closely examining the video clip.

SP Edafe claims that on January 1st, 2026, the Jesse community’s youth leader detained a few offenders and took them to the police station.

Israel Onojeruo, the narrator’s 20-year-old younger brother, was one of the suspects.

The confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who claimed to have sold a gun to Israel Onojeruo, led to the suspect’s arrest.

Afterwards, the suspects were moved to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for additional examination.

But when the DPO and two other Jesse division officers were accused of extortion, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, a community-friendly police official, heard the complaint and acted right away.

The AC X-Squad was instructed by the CP to look into the accusation made against the policemen.

“The DPO has been removed and deployed to the command headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation, and the constable identified as Bright in the video has been detained at the command headquarters.”

“The removal of DPO is in response to a series of complaints of extortion and unprofessionalism levelled against the DPO from different quarters,” stated SP Edafe.

“The CP assures members of the public that if, after investigation, the officers are found to have acted in an unprofessional manner, they will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the existing laws as stipulated in the Police Act and regulations to serve as a deterrent to others,” added SP Edafe.

The CP wants to make it clear that any kind of extortion, intimidation, rudeness toward the public, or lack of professionalism on the part of command officers would not be tolerated by the command under his direction.

“Therefore, he urged the public to call the following phone numbers in order to reach the command complaint response unit numbers in cases of complaint against police action.”
