The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has come under fire from presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala for his recent comments about the Bola Tinubu government.
Because he feels the former governor of Anambra State was never involved in the fight for democracy, Bwala, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, said that Obi should hold off on making any comments on June 12, 1993.
He claimed that because Obi was trading overseas at the time, he had no prior participation in the conflict.
At the commemoration of Democracy Day, Obi urged Tinubu to emulate previous presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Umaru Yar’Adua.
In order to emulate former President Yar’Adua, Obi suggested that the President admit the shortcomings of the methods he used to gain office.
He added that the president need to follow Jonathan’s example of accepting defeat in order to maintain Nigeria’s democracy.
Peter Obi and his followers have maintained that the 2023 presidential election was tainted by anomalies and that the results shouldn’t have been accepted.
Obi further claimed that the administration of Bola Tinubu does not practice democracy.
Bwala stated that the former governor ought to abstain from making remarks regarding Nigeria’s democratic struggle in a post via 𝕏 on Friday night.
“Please could someone please confirm whether it is true that on June 12, 1993 and weeks later, @PeterObi Peter Gregory Obi was in Malaysia or somewhere in Asia doing buying and selling trading business?” Bwala said.
“I looked online for any evidence of his involvement in the fight for democracy, but I couldn’t find anything,”
