General Olufemi Oluyede, the recently appointed Chief of Defence Staff, has denied rumors of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.
According to reports, President Donald Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) this week further escalated the accusations of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
The US President also promised that the US military would step in if the Nigerian government did not put an end to the alleged persecution of Christians.
However, the CDS stated that there is no genocide against Christians, despite claims made by some US congressmen and religious freedom campaigners, shortly after meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA) on Monday.
He maintained that the decades-long problem of terrorism in Nigeria is a worldwide concern.
He declared, “Christians are not persecuted in Nigeria.” That’s what I want Nigerians to know. Insecurity, particularly terrorism, is a problem that Nigeria has been dealing with for a while.
“We have been making every effort to stop this act of terrorism within the nation.
“If there are nations that are willing to assist Nigeria, we are prepared to include them in our efforts to prevent terrorism in Nigeria.”
