In a recent report ,it was stated that Idris Abdullahi Sheka, a resident of Sheka quarters in Kano State, has been remanded in a correctional centre by the Kano State Sharia Court for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Miranatu Musa, near her eye following a disagreement they had.

The Kano State Police Command brought Abdullahi before the Shari’a Court on a charge of inflicting a severe injury on the complainant’s body. According to the prosecutor handling the case, the suspect is accused of entering the victim’s tailoring shop and attacking her with a sharp object, resulting in a serious wound and significant bloodshed near her eye.

During the court proceedings, Abdullahi pleaded guilty to the charges and offered an explanation for his actions. He stated that he deliberately sought revenge by stabbing her in the eye because he believed she conspired with one of her boyfriends to deceive him. He recounted a previous incident where she lured him to a location where he was attacked by thugs, which fueled his desire for revenge.

“I did it deliberately as revenge. I stabbed her in the eye because she connived with one of her boyfriends to deceive me. She once called me and asked that I should bring her yoghurt, and after i bought the yoghurt, she dragged me to one place where i was stabbed by some thugs. That is why I decided to take revenge.”

In response, the victim, Miranatu Musa, denied any association with the accused and claimed that she had never met him before the day of the stabbing. She asserted that she had no knowledge of the motives behind the attack and rejected any suggestion of involvement with the alleged deception.

Upon hearing both sides, Judge Sani Tanimu Sani Hausawa delivered his verdict, ordering that Abdullahi be remanded in prison. The judge adjourned the case until August 8 for further proceedings.

This incident has brought attention to the issue of violence against women and highlights the importance of addressing misunderstandings and conflicts in a peaceful and lawful manner. The court’s decision to remand the accused in prison reflects the seriousness of the charges and the need to ensure a fair and just legal process.

In light of this case, it is essential for society to promote awareness about the consequences of violence and the significance of seeking non-violent resolutions to conflicts. Efforts should be made to provide support and protection for victims of such incidents, while also ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions through due legal process.
